Soft and Simple

I have fallen in love with soft pastels. Quite the opposite of where I've been in my past.
It all started a while back when I changed the look of my blog to lighter colors.  Everything I looked at and loved was soft colors and simple decor.

One day I found these books and saved them until I knew what I wanted to do with them.  I'm still trying to figure that part out but I do know that I want to use them.

I've also been putting my creative side to the test and this frame was my Guinea pig.
The color turned out perfect and goes well with the books.
As far as a name for this kind of decor... I could go for the cottage, shabby or romantic look with these colors. All of which I love.   I'll have to see where all this takes me.
Now I'm looking forward to finding other things to add for my new soft and simple look.

  1. How pretty! Love the pastel colors. It would so great to own different house and decorate in different color schemes. Your background is lovey. Love the books. Can't wait to see what you do next.

  2. Don't you find that your style name is hard to put a label on? Depending on what I have out, mine could change every day. I guess there is a lot of overlap!

  4. They are gorgeous books! I had to giggle when I read this post, because we are alot alike! I have never been too fond of pastels until I fell in love with shabby chic and romantic prairie style and cottage style. Pink was never a colour I liked either until now. It's funny how our tastes can change! :)
I love the colour and texture of your picture frame...it goes perfect with the books!
I love the soft looks too...have fun with where you're headed!!!
    Have a great week sweetie!

  5. Hi and thanks for your comment on our wedding post! Congratulations to both you and your son on his upcoming nuptials! Though it can be stressful with all the details you have to tend to, this really is a special time, so my biggest piece of advice would be to try and keep things fun, and remember that this is a once in a lifetime event, so it's important to enjoy it. ( :

My fiance and I were really lucky to have incredibly supportive and helpful people on both sides of our families. I can't say enough good things about my own, but since you're going to be the future mother-in-law to the bride, I'll talk specifically about the things my mother-in-law did that I really appreciated. Her willingness to help out with whatever she could has been so important to me in this whole process. If I needed something done, I could just tell her and it would get done without me having to worry about. She was always so nice when she voiced her ideas about the wedding, and she never got annoyed if I wanted to do something different. I was lucky that we had largely the same taste in things, so there was rarely anything we thought differently about, but if there was she always made it clear that my preference was the one that mattered most. Let your future daughter-in-law know that you're there to help her with anything she needs (going to interview vendors, putting together invites, making phone calls to negotiate prices, whatever...), but that ultimately you respect her vision for her big day, and I'm sure she'll appreciate it as much as I have.

And I would tell her to buy a wedding planning book and start making a list of things to do early on! There are literally hundreds of details that need to be coordinated (more than I ever even imagined, and we're keeping our wedding fairly simple), and if she's acting as the wedding planner (like me) then she'll want to know from the get-go what she'll have to do when she'll have to do it so there's not too much stress later on.

Be sure to let us know if you guys have any questions along the way, and enjoy this time with your family. Congratulations again!
