A Vintage Table With Painted Clock....May Need Help

I found a great little vintage round coffee table one day.

I knew right off the bat what I wanted to try to do with it.

I wanted to make the top like an old aged clock.

I just knew it was the perfect thing to do for this little table.

The original cherry wood still looked good.  It had a great little shape and was in really good shape.

The details along the side of it just added a certain touch of...shall we say elegance?!

Add the medallion and I was in love.

Cute isn't it?

But after I started it and almost finished it, the numbers and center piece weren't how I wanted them to turn out.  So...I painted the top out again and again. This time I left it but I'm still not sure.  There's something that's just not sitting right with me.  Does it need to be more distressed on top?  Maybe it's too cute to be distressed and it should just be pretty in white with edges a tiny bit distressed.  I was thinking this would be an easy piece to do but it actually is turning out not so easy.

I love the idea of it but...I'm just not sure.  Does any one have an opinion of what this cute little table needs?  More distressed or less distressed? Too much stuff on top, not enough stuff on top, even ugly, get rid of it there's no help...I really would like some input so if you want, just share your thoughts and maybe the right thing will come about.
I would love to hear your suggestions.
